Memorandum given to Thai Parliament by Thailand Protesters

October 03, 2012
To
The Honorable Speaker
The parliament of the Royal kingdom of Thailand

Subject: Seeking your kind attention for the protection and restoration of the Human rights of the Buddhist Communities in Bangladesh.

Your Excellency,

We, on behalf of the Bangladesh Buddhist Community living in Thailand, would like to extend our humble request to The Honorable Speaker to protect the Bangladeshi Buddhist communities from the current barbarous communal violence and atrocities being done by the Islamic extremists in Ramu, Ukhiya, Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar and in Chittagong districts. On 29th to 30th September 2012, Muslims protesters have attacked Buddhist Monasteries and villages in above mentioned areas. According to our families, relatives, some Buddhist organizations in Bangladesh and BD24.com News, BBC News, CNN, Bangkok post, Al-Jazeera and other medias, Muslims have been brutally firing, smashing and attacking the minority Buddhists in Bangladesh. The victims have added that their possessions have been stolen before their homes were destroyed. They have been rampaging through out Buddhist localities and raping, smashing Buddha statues, burning down many monasteries, attacking many Buddhist houses and looting precious properties. The violence is spreading to the outskirts of the port city of Chittagong, where a Hindu temple was also attacked.

This is one of the worst religious attacks in Bangladesh history. The assailants set fire to more than 21 Buddhist Monasteries and 75 houses including shops and business centers. Monasteries have been seriously damaged in the hateful attack and killed 7 people, including a Buddhist novice and a Buddhist monk was seriously wounded. A 100-feet length under-construction Buddha statue and sculpture were also ravaged in Bimukti Bidarshan meditation Centre in the above mentioned locality.

Therefore, we humbly request to the Speaker, the Royal kingdom of Thailand to take a pragmatic step for the protection and restoration of the Human rights of the Buddhist communities in Bangladesh.

We would like to kindly request to that you may the Speaker take the necessary steps against the human right violators on Buddhist communities in Bangladesh. We consider it is our duty to seek your sympathetic support to prevent these types of brutalities and atrocities on the Buddhist communities in Bangladesh. Hereby, we are appealing for taking immediate actions and exemplary justice for the Muslim extremists who caused this unrest in the country.

Your truly,

On behalf of
The Bangladesh Buddhist Community in Thailand.
