Dhaka: Four Buddhist minority families in southern part of Chittagong hill tract
in Bangladesh left their home and moved to Burma after brutal arson attacks on
the Buddhist community in Ramu in Bangladesh, said a community leader in the
area.
Numbering 18 people in four families set out at dawn of October 1 from their
village, local people know as Kyunt Na Wra, under Shona Sari village tract in
Nakhonchari township of Banderban district in Bangladesh.
The village belonging to them is said to be located at eastern site of Ramu
where a brutal arson attack on Buddhist temples and families took place on 29
and 30 September.
“As far as I know they are afraid after the attacks in Ramu. In the same
time, they struggle daily because they have no jobs. I think that is the reason
they left for Burma,” the community leader said.
The four families that left for Burma belong to U Mae Thok, U Lin Tun, U Mg
Than and U Aung Kyaw Hla.
Bangladesh Border security force came to the village and collected the family
member list after they left their village, he said.
According to sources on border, the families passed Walar Daung border pass
located at remote area in the northern part of Maungdaw Township in Arakan and
arrived at the Burma border security force, Nasaka, area 2 where authorities are
looking after them.
