Dhaka, Nov 14 (bdnews24.com)—Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on
Wednesday said religion-based politics fanned communal hatred.
She made the observation in her answer to a question from MP
Faridunnahar Laily with reference to the recent communal attacks on
Buddhist monasteries and houses at Cox's Bazaar district's Ramu Upazila.
She took questions as scheduled business was suspended on the
first day of the 15th session in mark of respect for Chittagong MP
Akhtaruzzamn Babu who died recently.
"Throwing religion into politics or religion-based politics has
already become a political problem. It is only natural that the
seed of communalism will begin rear its head amid the heat
of political zealotry," Hasina observed.
Her Awami League party, however, ignored demands of Leftist
political parties and cultural organisations to ban politics that
used religious sentiments as a tool.
The Prime Minister, in her reply, also talked about the
measures her government took following the Ramu violence.
Answering a question posed by the Sylhte-2 MP Mahmud-Us
Samad Chowdhury, Hasina said her government was working
to make industrial law and a policy for shipbuilding industry.
According to her, the government was also working to prepare
drafts of Trade Marks Rules-2012, Patent Act-2012, Design
Act-2012 and Geographical Indications Act-2012.
She informed Parliament private telephone operators may
get 3-G licence from early next year as she responded to a
question of MP Nasimul Alam Chowdhury.
Currently, only state-run Teletalk provide the service.
